Behind the art

The Artist behind the pixels & polygons.

Hello, I’m Jose Luis Picardo, a 3D Environment Artist.

My friends call me Joselu, although I am also known as Josby. Since I was young, I have always had a passion for level design. I remember spending hours in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 testing spots, alternative routes to reach objectives faster, grenade throws, everything you can imagine.

In Call of Duty Black Ops, I became very good thanks to my knowledge of the maps and spawns. Over time, I started as a prop artist to enter the industry and discovered that I loved the artistic and creative side as much as, or even more than, the design side, so I decided to focus on it to pursue a career in the industry.

"Good environment art isn't just about modeling polygons; it's about telling a silent story and guiding the player's emotion through the space."

I have been involved in 3D for more than 10 years since I discovered Blender and started experimenting, and I have been working more seriously since 2019. However, I have always combined it with work and other responsibilities, so I have not had as much time as I would have liked.

Currently, I am developing a highly ambitious stylized project at my own pace with the goal of building a strong portfolio, with the support of Odin3D academy, where I receive feedback and guidance, especially on the more technical aspects. It is proving to be a very enriching experience in which I am learning all the facets that make up a professional environment.
